Oregon Grapes
Not true grapes, Oregon grapes are related to bayberry, and grow wild throughout the western United States. Used by Native Americans for medicine, domestic varieties are most commonly used in landscaping, for colorful ground cover. In winter, the leaves turn copper, bright orange, and red. The tiny blooms are yellow.
Until this uncharacteristically wet year, I had never seen them this plump and lush before. Ordinarily, they have just a few hard little dry-looking berries.
