Great Expectations
Exchequer Mine entrance
Originally staked in the 1880’s, the Exchequer was among the largest producers of silver and tungsten in the region. The tunnel and shaft were excavated primarily with dynamite, picks, and shovels. Ore was first transported by mule train wagons, and later in large dumptrucks.
The pipes were devised to pump out copious amounts of water inside the main shaft.

Recent (1990’s) efforts to resume operations have not proven successful. Small mines such as this are handicapped by expensive government regulations, such as environmental impact studies.
