End Of The Line

Cherry Creek Depot – Steptoe Valley, NV

Ore trains began shipping raw silver from the rich mines of White Pine County in 1906. After the mines closed in the early 1920’s, the next generation of mines shipped refined copper from the (then) world’s largest open pit copper mine at Ruth, Nevada, to Salt Lake City, UT. Kennecott Copper Corporation ceased mine and mill operations in White Pine County permanently, in 1975.

All that remains of the old train depot are the base of the water tower, the tracks, and a small maintenance shack.
