Rocky Squirrel by Arla M. Ruggles

Rocky Squirrel

Not your ordinary urban park squirrel – this ground squirrel lives in a penthouse made of solid stone and forages for pinon nuts, seeds, and wild berries in some of the toughest terrain imaginable. He must be quick and nimble, for he is much sought-after by various predators, including coyotes, cougars, and hawks.

They hibernate during most of the winter, and this was my first sighting of the season.
